Hey everyone, Do you hate road traffic in Leiden? Elderly ladies clogging up alleyways, pesky children in your way as you try to make it somewhere on time? We have a workaround. On the 30th of August Leidance will take to the canals for some quality sightseeing around our city. No road traffic, no pesky kids. We have room for 12 people (1 boat), or 24 (2 boats) if enough people sign up. Here's how it works: reserve a spot on the Leidance website (https://www.sdaleidance.nl/product/drijvende-borrel/) for €14,99 and you're set! The EL CID week is about to start and of course Leidance will be there too! You can find us on the Information Market on Monday 13th at the Beestenmarkt, and on the Sports Market on Wednesday 15th at the University Sports Centre. We will give workshops here too!

Five fresh, motivated Leidancers are getting ready to take over the responsibilities of being a Board member next year! Starting september 1st they will organize workshops, parties, extra dancing lessons, social events and more! Besides that, they will make sure everything behind the scenes will go smoothly. The five amazing people that will protect Leidance next year are the following: Mousa Hosseinimehr as Chairman Robin Tolenaar as Secretary Zander van der Steege as Treasurer Annemarijn Rijkers as Assessor Internal Affairs Nikki Schotman as Assessor External Affairs We are looking forward to all the things they will do this year, and wish them the best!            

During the summer we have to do without all the amazing USC dancing lessons but, luckily, not without dancing at all! Every Wednesday (except during the EL CID and OWL) there will be Summer Social Dancing by Leidance. You can dance ballroom, salsa, kizomba, bachata and more. Learn from eachother, socialize and have fun! The location is USC, Room B, upstairs. Access to the USC is free when you are a USC member, otherwise free once with an inspiration pass, after that €6,50 for a day pass. Leidance members have free access to the Social Dancings, non-members pay just one euro. Please bring your membership card when you are a member.

After a very succesful workshop from Marcel in February, we had a second one! Where the last workshop focussed on the looks of ballroom, this one focussed on connection. While holding a small ball between their bodies, couples had to move through the room, without dropping the ball. Quite challenging, but it worked wonders for the connection! Attention was also given to watching the room. When the dance floor is crowded, you don't want to bump into other couples or step on other peoples feet. That requires quite some teamwork, since a leader can only see part of the room and the follower can see another part. By forcing us to dance in a very small space of the big room, Marcel challenged us to really look out for eachother.…

On April 28th, it's time for the Leidance Gala! Magical masquerade, dancing all night long, and a beautiful location... It's will be a night to remember. On Saturday April 28th we'll have a party at Dekker Warmond and dance ballroom in one room and salsa, bachata, and kizomba in another. In a few days the pre-sale starts! You can buy early bird tickets for €12 (members) of €15 (non-members). You can also buy your ticket at the door for €15 (members) or €18 (non-members). Make sure you'll be there and don't forget to wear your magnificent mask... Hope to see you all there.

In a couple of weeks it's time for NTDS (Nederlands Tournooi voor Dansende Studenten). With the help of Robin from DanceFit, who gave us his place for an afternoon, we could help prepare our team! We learned how to enter and leave the dance area and had some other essential tips on how the weekend would progress. Some of our members already have had years of NTDS experience, but for many of them this time will be their first so we hope that this workshop gave them an idea what to expect. Esther also introduced the contestants to Nalim, our pride and joy. We learnt a lot this afternoon, so thank you Esther and Reinier for giving a wonderful and fun workshop! Amazing dancers Marcel Vos and Rozetta Kats came to Leidance to give us a unforgettable workshop. We danced waltz, tango and quickstep while they gave tips about dancing bigger and covering more distance across the dance floor while making it look more and more professional. Tricky techniques were broken down to simple pieces for easier learning, and Marcel demonstrated both humour, patience and ingenuity throughout the workshop. After the workshop there was time for some free dancing, while Marcel and Rozetta gave everyone some personal tips to improve even more. The big difference in how everyone was dancing at the beginning and at the end of the workshop was really great to see. We learned so much!

Christmas is a holiday filled with cozy dinners with friends and family, so we organised our own Leidance family dinner date at La Bota and encouraged everyone to dress themselves in true holiday fashion. Jan Matteo showed up with a little Santa hat, while others were dressed in a sparkly way. Here, we enjoyed a lovely dinner accompanied with some nice drinks after Marijke gave a small speech in regards to the past year and the next. The food was delicious, and nothing but empty plates were carried to the kitchen afterwards. After dinner, some people went to the North End Pub and continued the festivities there with some cider and beer. It was a great evening!
